"I have to tell you something." Guppy says, sitting down next to his wife on the sofa. "About the trip. I wanted to before but... I didn't know how to make the words come."

Frogspawn turns to him, and touches his cheek gently.

"You want to tell me that you were injured out there?"

"How did you know?"

"It was in your eyes, literally." she says, shrugging. "After the fourth time you got up extra slowly I got suspicious and peeped under your lower eyelid while you were asleep. You're anaemic, because you lost blood."

"There's something else." Guppy says. "There was more fighting than we anticipated and..."

"You killed someone?"

"Yes."

"Was it a zombie?"

Guppy blinks, feeling he has somehow lost control of this confession.

"Again, how..?"

"You told me in your sleep two nights ago." Frogspawn says. "Guppy, don't look so worried. What's important to me is that you came back in one piece. Anything else, we can work with." She gives him a hug.

"Thank you."

"You can make up for scaring me by fixing the downstairs toilet like you said you were going to do last week."
