Reception

Guppy's house. What little furniture there is has been mostly moved upstairs, apart from the threadbare sofa, bean bag and a few newly mended garden chairs.

The whole area is decorated with ribbons and flowers.

Well, there is one young woman who is probably a good bet as coming from Milliways. Short, even with the heels of her sandals, and if she's black-haired and olive-skinned like Guppy's family, she's also giving the impression that she might fly away. Not terribly human of her, really, for all she looks like it.

Still, she gives Rapunzel a quick, darting smile.

Medusa -- without snakes! Amazing!

It takes Teja a moment to recognise her. He himself is wearing black, modern clothes -- leather breeches, and a silk shirt, no suit, and definitely no tie! -- and drinking red wine from a glass, observing the people.

Without her wings, too, which are possibly the more distinctive feature. But Teja! She knows Teja.

Teja now has a wingless, snakeless Gorgon by his side. If she looks like she's hiding, well. Um.

"Hey, Teja!"

"Greetings, Medusa!" Teja says. "Guppy's invitation demanded for guests to be human; and you fulfil that demand, beautifully! That dress reminds one of your wings, somewhat. It is fit for a queen!"

A glowing smile at that, and she twirls - it's just something you have to do in these circumstances. The dress is a flowing thing, and the movement suits it.

"Thank you! You look good, too."

"Guppy assured me I would not need to wear one of those little nooses round my neck," Teja says, "that many men from the future wear. So I put on what I had."

Pause.

"But your dress is truly amazing!"

"Ah, yes. A tie. Sam's had to wear one of those."

"Do you know what they are good for?" Teja says, sipping his wine. "Many seem to wear them!"

A startled giggle.

"Me?"

"Yes -- why would men from the future tie these loops around their necks?" Teja asks. "Did Sam tell you?"

"Not in so many words, no."

"Then maybe it is merely a custom none would think much about," Teja says. "It does not even look good! That dress of yours, though, truly does look lovely!"

"Mmm, Sam thought so, too."

Funnily enough. He's around somewhere, being smug

"So. Um. Having fun?"

Rapunzel just thinks she looks a bit nervous, and smiles back, warmly.

"Great shoes."

"Oh!" Her smile widens to a beam. "Thank you."

"Your dress is fabulous, too; those colors really suit you."

She walks over and sips her wine.

"You're here from Milliways?"

"Well, we're a little more dressed up than most of the locals."

She nods in the direction of the people wearing t-shirts.

"I'm Rapunzel, by the way."

"I guess we are. And I'm Medha."

"It's nice yo meet you. It's kind of odd to meet a person in a completely different world than the one you're from, when we both frequent the same place at the end of the universe."

A soft, nervous laugh.

"I...suppose it might be. I'm just relieved."

"Relieved?"

She takes a sip of wine and considers Medha curiously.

"You were expecting something bad to happen?"

"I'm just...not used to so many strangers."

"The bar must drive you crazy, then. I took up bartending from time to time, to meet new people, since so many seem to come and go so often. It's hard to keep up."

"Actually, the Bar is mostly okay - it's bigger."

It's not that she's forgotten that her wings are hidden (she can't forget), it's just that she forgets that Rapunzel doesn't know that she has them.
