Reception

Guppy's house. What little furniture there is has been mostly moved upstairs, apart from the threadbare sofa, bean bag and a few newly mended garden chairs.

The whole area is decorated with ribbons and flowers.

"I guess we are. And I'm Medha."

Not Medusa, not here.

"It's nice yo meet you. It's kind of odd to meet a person in a completely different world than the one you're from, when we both frequent the same place at the end of the universe."

A soft, nervous laugh.

"I...suppose it might be. I'm just relieved."

"Relieved?"

She takes a sip of wine and considers Medha curiously.

"You were expecting something bad to happen?"

"I'm just...not used to so many strangers."

"The bar must drive you crazy, then. I took up bartending from time to time, to meet new people, since so many seem to come and go so often. It's hard to keep up."

"Actually, the Bar is mostly okay - it's bigger."

It's not that she's forgotten that her wings are hidden (she can't forget), it's just that she forgets that Rapunzel doesn't know that she has them.

"A little clausterphobic? I'm sure Guppy wouldn't mind if you stepped out into the yard for some air if you're feeling closed in."

Yesss, but ssstill people, Medusa thinks and her snakes hiss. But they are hidden, so the Gorgon just nods.

"Probably...wouldn't hurt."

"Would you like me to walk you out, or am I just making you more uncomfortable, because you don't know me?"

"Everyone is making me uncomfortable. But you're...you're all right. I think."

She smiles encouragingly and gestures in the direction of the back door.

"I'll do my best not to crowd you, or make any sudden moves."

"Thank you."

And despite her looking human, she doesn't move like it - a little too careful, a little too wary. Still, outside is outside and even if there are still too many people out here, at least there is sky.

She's too polite to mention the odd movement, but she does notice it. It makes her more curious, but doesn't want to scare the girl. Stepping out into a lovely day, she breathes in the fresh air.

"I came into Milliways from New York City, late twentieth century. How about you?"

"North Africa, about, um. Seventeen hundred years before you."

"Wow! It's not often I meet someone from back before my time. I was born in the late middle ages."

She sips her wine.

"No wonder everything around here has you flustered; it must be so different to what you're used to."

"I live in a cave with two of my sisters."

Just to put it all in perspective.

"Ah...yes! Very different, then. I think I'd be a little out of my depth, too. Do your sisters also come to the bar?"

"One of them does - not one I live with, though."

"Oh? Would it be anyone I might have met?"

"Scylla? Fair skin than mine, straighter dark hair, terribly grumpy."

She grins at the description, but shakes her head.

"I'm afraid not. I'm sure I'll bump into her eventually, if I keep an eye out. What makes her grumpy?"

"Our world...isn't nice." Beat. "But, she always was grumpy."

Not that Medusa was ever a brat to her older sister.

Nope.

"I think I was an only child. I was the first child of peasants who were foolish enough to steal from a witch's garden. The witch demanded they hand be over in payment, and they did."

There's not much emotion in her voice. It was a long time ago.

"I don't know if they ever had more children after I was taken away."

She doesn't say she's sorry, but her head bows.

"It sounds like something that would happen in my world."
