Reception

Guppy's house. What little furniture there is has been mostly moved upstairs, apart from the threadbare sofa, bean bag and a few newly mended garden chairs.

The whole area is decorated with ribbons and flowers.

"Along with your eyes and hair," she says fondly.

A sweet smile.

"Almost makes me wish he was our son."

"I really wish he was too." And it was harder because he couldn't be.

She nods in understanding.

"I'm glad we know him," she says, looping her arms around his neck. "Glad we have this chance. And I'm glad that you care about him. Because I know one day, when we have children of our own, you'll love them too."

She doesn't know if she's stretching it when she says Draco loves Scorpius, but it's clear he cares for his alternate universe son.

Draco hadn't realized it yet. He just felt an instinctive need to care for the boy, even if it wasn't exactly his.

"I... Yes, yes of course."

Mia nuzzles her cheek against his shoulder.

"It's all right. I think it's a sign that, when we do start having children in a few years, we'll be ready."

She smiles.

"I think it's very sweet."

"I guess so, didn't think I was until you mentioned it."

"Ready, you mean?"

She shrugs.

"All in its own time. Nothing pressing now."

Draco shook his head, "No,...yes well that. But what you said about Scorpius. He's not our son, but I do care for him. A great deal. Even for the short time we've known him."

"He is family, in a strange way, and he taught me something about myself, as you often do."

She looks up into his eyes.

"I've not been very fair to you. I was suspicious when Scorpius told me I wasn't his mother. That made me realize I need to trust you, more than I had trust you before. The trust I've owed to you ever since we agreed to marry. So I've worked on that, put my faith in you the way I should have so long ago."

A sheepish, hopeful smile.

"With any luck, you will forgive me for my suspicions about your faithfulness."

"I like to think I've proven myself."

Her smile fades a little.

"You're right. You have. That's why I hope you can forgive me for not giving you what you deserved for so long."

"Mia... it's a party. Enjoy it." And he kissed her.

She smiles as she kisses back.

"I guess that means you do."

His grey eyes went upward.

"Althena's sake... now she gets it."

"Well, I'm sorry, but I don't like it when there's even a chance that the handsome wizard I'm madly in love with would be upset with me."

"I know, but I'm not upset with you, darling. Not at all."

She giggles at that.

"Good. Now the only chance I might get to step on your toes is if I slip dancing."

"Then don't." He kissed her again.
