Guppy comes downstairs to a chorus of Happy Birthday and a large pile of balloons. Under the balloons, somewhere, is Alex, batting at the big floaty things.

"Thanks." he grins, and treads carefully. The dog is somewhere under there as well, not looking too happy.

"Oh, I think Sparky needs to go out." he says, pausing at the door. "Did we remember not to put the force field on last night?"

Frogspawn nods. Ever since the Great Floating Snow Incident last year, which resulted in a mass simultaneous drop of six inches of snow onto the roof and twenty broken tiles, they've made sure to turn it off when snow is expected. Not least because it looks very weird. Guppy turns off the rest of the burglar alarm, and tries to open the door.

It won't budge. He peeps through the letter box at the ten inches of snow outside, that has wormed its way in to freeze the door solid to the frame.

"What's force field?" Alex asks, popping up with a yellow balloon.

"It's the thing around the house that makes stuff bounce off." Guppy says, going into the living room and opening the window. "Frogs, can you get me some hot water please, so I can unfreeze the door?"

He spots the dog, desperately holding on. He picks her up - easy given that she's about the size of a guinea pig - and lowers her outside. She sinks straight into the snow up to her nose and whines.

"Pee quick then, and we'll get you in." Guppy says, climbing out the window. The dog looks at him as though he's nuts, does her business, and then gratefully accepts the lift back through the window.

Guppy moves around to inspect the house. Snow has settled thick on every available surface. It's quite pretty really, but a pain in the neck.

Inside the house, Alex puts down his balloon, goes into the dining room, and drags out a chair. Honestly, grown ups! They've just said they have this thing for stopping stuff from sticking to the house, and they're messing around with hot water! He climbs on the chair, lifts the lid of the box, and looks at the buttons. Well, Daddy just turned off that one, so it must be the other one.

He reaches out and pokes it.

Outside, Guppy stares in amazement as ten inches of snow on the house suddenly leaps off the house. He freezes for a moment, thinking the house has somehow exploded, then breathes, seeing it's intact. Just the force field.

He looks up. And starts to run...
