Feb. 24th, 2010 09:25 pmIt's been a long night of bizarre dreams. When Guppy finally wakes up properly, it's to the smell of bacon sandwiches.
He glances over at the clock. 4:15. Why is there bacon cooking at 4:15? That's early even for Frogspawn. Deciding to check the house isn't on fire, he gets up and pulls back the curtain, and is surprised how light it is.
He wanders downstairs and into the kitchen, where Frogspawn is busy nomming her sandwich. She grins at him.
"Hey sweetie, sorry, didn't realise you were up or I'd have made you one."
"Why's everyone up so early?" Guppy asks, giving her a kiss and putting his own bacon on.
"S'four in the afternoon, you muppet. You didn't sleep for three days, remember? I was hardly going to wake you when you finally got settled."
Guppy drops his egg. "Did I miss work?"
"No Guppy, it's only Monday - you did the weekend shift so you have today and tomorrow off." She gets up to pass him the kitchen roll. "Stop worrying!"
Guppy looks down as his little person tugs at his pyjama trousers. Why is Daddy not dressed yet? Why does he have to get dressed every morning if Daddy gets to wander around in his pyjamas?
"Do you want a bacon sandwich?"
"Yeh."
Guppy gets the kitchen timer, sets it to the time required to make the sandwich, then passes it to Alex.
"It will be ready when the chicken clucks." he says.
This has worked fairly well in the past. Alex has been known to watch the chicken ticking for up to five minutes. However this time Alex examines the timer, then twists it back down to zero. The chicken clucks.
"Bacon now!" Alex says cheerfully.
"C'mere Fry, let's play drawing on Mummy's bump again while we're waiting." Frogspawn says, polishing off her sandwich. Her pregnancy bump is just starting to show, and as she rolls her t-shirt up to reveal a diagram. Alex moves over and artistically adds a blue scribble.
"What's that?" Frogspawn asks.
"Pingu." Alex replies, as though it's obvious.
