The black belt standing next to him runs his palm down his face.
"Dr Sandhu, bowing is not an offensive manoevre. Dan hasn't started yet."
Guppy blinks. "He's not about to headbutt me?"
"No, we don't have headbutting in karate. Just what we said before."
The instructor watches, sighs, and approaches.
"Get up off the floor and pull your trousers up man. Belt is tied like this. Can you breathe?"
"Not really."
"Good, right, now try again."
He watches. And sighs again.
"Okay, enough of that. Bricks please."
Guppy waits in the queue, feeling rather silly and not good at this at all. As he approaches the front, he suddenly realises the pile of bricks is getting smaller. Once it is his turn, he stares at it doubtfully, then raises his arm.
"Wait! I forget. Not for you. Here."
He removes the brick and replaces it with a small bread roll.
"When you break this, then you try the brick."
