Abs fans the smoke detectors and opens the windows.

"Okay, let's just go through this one more time. I barred you from the kitchen because you are a flaming liability! What the hell are you doing anyway? I thought we agreed if you had to come in here you should stick to the microwave?"

Guppy pulls the cake tin out of the oven to reveal a smouldering black lump. If anything could manage to be burnt and liquid at the same time, this was it.

"I was making Aeryn a birthday cake. She's never had one before."

Abs eyes it suspiciously.

"What did you put in it."

"Butter, sugar, eggs, a spoonful of milk and some hundreds and thousands. I followed the recipe."

"You blatantly didn't. What about the flour?"

"Oh."

Abs sighs.

"Why don't you just buy a cake and then decorate it? That way you won't be able to burn anything."

Guppy cheers up. "Oh, that's a good idea. Thanks."

He deposits the smouldering mess in a sink full of water for safekeeping then heads out to buy a cake.
