"Okay, how are the Christmas lists coming?" Guppy asks, squatting down by the coffee table. Brooklyn waggles a disinterested foot in her baby chair, while the older two frown in deep concentration.
"Done it." Fry says, handing his over.
'Dear Father Cristmas or Mummy and Daddy,
I am good exsept when I dont no something is norty.
I wood like some feltip pens that I dont have to share and some poppy bubbles.
Fry'
"That's very good Fry... what's poppy bubbles?" Guppy asks, debating whether to correct the spelling.
"We had them last year and they are in lines and you press them and they go pop."
"Oh... bubble wrap. Okay... There's not very much here, is there anything else you want?" He hesitates and adds. "Mummy and I were wondering if you want a tablet."
"What's that?" Fry asks.
"It's like a big version of Mummy and Daddy's phones that won't break if you drop it on the floor. Again. You can read on it and draw pictures and play games but not phone people. But you have to share it with Coral and Brooke when they're old enough to work it."
"Yes I'd like that please." Fry says.
"Okay Coral, let's look at yours." Guppy shuffles over. Coral hasn't really grasped letters yet, which is perfectly normal at her age. He's not going to push too hard, just when she shows interest.
"Shall we do some writing together?" Guppy says. "I'll write it on top and you copy it? Let's start 'Dear Father Christmas'. Now what would you like?"
He sees Coral look at the new baby. For a moment he thinks she's going to say she wants to be the youngest again.
"A dummy. For Brookie." Coral says. "So she is quiet."
"Well you know what, that's very kind, we'll put that on Brookie's own list. What would you like for you?"
"A pokymon." Coral says. "And a robot."
"A pokemon? A toy one, right? Good, just checking." Guppy writes it down and slides it over for her to write underneath.
'D ae rFa rter' Coral chews her crayon and looks at the page doubtfully.
"Daddy do it." she decides, sliding it over.
"Okay." Guppy doesn't push it. Probably hard to copy something that doesn't mean much to you.
"Tell him I want the pokymon to battle the robot and... and they go to the ballet." Coral declares, bouncing off.
"Will do..."
"Done it." Fry says, handing his over.
