Outside in a quiet corner of the garden, well away from the lake, a birthday party has been set up.

There's a paddling pool with some toys in, a picnic spread out on a cloth, and a sign saying 'Happy Birthday Coral'.

"They make a quacky sort of noise." Guppy says.

"Cool."

The lone penguin to be found wandering Mainframe never makes any noise. No one's quite sure what he's doing there, for that matter. They're not even a Linux system.

"Are you able to go in the pool?" Guppy asks Enzo. "I don't want you to get electricuted."

"As long as no one splashes my face," Enzo replies, sitting down to pull off his boots.

"I'm not sure the little ones can be trusted to understand that." Guppy says.

Enzo pauses, then shrugs. "I'll try to keep my mouth closed. It'll be fine."

"No splashing." Guppy says, with big gestures to the kids.

"Water wheel." Fry says, going back to his little wheel.

Enzo finishes removing his boots and socks, then taps his icon. A shimmer runs down the length of his body, removing his uniform and leaving behind a pair of red swim trunks.

(Despite the generally humanoid structure, male sprites do not, it turns out, have nipples. Your life is so much richer for knowing that, we are sure.)

Coral giggles at Enzo.

"Ew, red." Fry comments.

"Sorry, it's what I've got."

"But you can change." Fry says. "Whooshy." he gestures.

"Yeah, but I need to have it stored in my icon first."

"How?" Fry asks.

"I don't think he can do it here. It probably involves nudity, like changing your clothes." Guppy says.

"Exactly. I have to put it on first."

Fry glances up at him, then stares.

"Where are your boobies?"

"Enzo doesn't have boobies, he's a boy." Guppy says.

"But..." Fry points at his own nipples.

Enzo does his very best not to blush nor burst out laughing.

"Boy sprites don't have nipples. I still don't really get why boy humans do."

"Evolutionary remnant I think." Guppy says.

Fry examines his nipples critically, then tries to poke them in so they aren't sticking out. He doesn't succeed.

Enzo nods. That doesn't fully explain it, not to him at any rate, but it does explain why sprites don't have them, since they didn't need to evolve as humans did.

"That was one of the weirdest parts, the first time I turned human. It didn't feel as weird as the body hair, but it was just... wrong."

Nipples and eyelashes on men. What a species.

"Daddy, make my boobies go." Fry demands.

"I'm sorry Fry, it doesn't work like that." Guppy says. "Oh hey look, a rubber duckie!"

He pushes the yellow object over to Fry, who examines it critically.

"Not much like a duck..." Fry says. Then he discovers that it makes a squeaky noise when you press it, and drops it like it's hot. "Bad noise!"

"You asked if my duck squeaked," Enzo points out, puzzled.

"This one different!" Fry complains.

He splashes over to Coral, snatches the duck she has, and squeaks it to make a slightly lower pitched squeak.

"Fry, don't snatch." Guppy says.

Coral just stares at him, then reaches out for it.

"Ohhh, the pitch. Too high?"

"Yes." Fry says, squeaking the duck just out of his sister's reach.

Coral looks at him. He's been there for most of the moments in her life, and she's got used to seeing him move around her like she doesn't exist, though sometimes he says her name, and if she cries, tries to help her stop. And sometimes if another kid is bothering her he pushes them away.

But right now, she wants the duck.

She stands up, with some difficulty in the water, and toddles around to stand right in front of him, and holds out her hands.

"Fry!" she says.

Fry stares at her for a moment, then gives her the duck.

Enzo, sitting down in the water, looks curiously at them, then at Guppy. Is that normal for them?

"Well done Coral, you said 'Fry'!" Guppy says, clapping. "First word other than Mummy and Daddy that wasn't in sign language." he adds to Enzo.

Fry stares at them both.

"I can do that." he points out, going back to his water wheel and ignoring his sister again.
