Guppy's 30th Birthday Party

Having collected everyone from the bar, Guppy leads them back through to the house, where they enter through the kitchen.

The living room furniture has been mostly moved out of the way, and that's where the most of the party has been set up. The sofa and some chairs are around the edge of the room, and there's music playing. The kitchen is a bit small so the food is being taken through into the dining room. Also a little on the small side, but enough for purpose. All of the baby gates are open on the ground floor, but not on the stairs.

Upstairs, the spare bedroom has been set aside for any little people at the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

"...well, not nagger so much as... just lazy. This time of year, it's not easy to haul myself off the couch to get my own snacks and sodas. Ev just gets his henchsquirrels to do it for him, but they're a lot more generous to him than they are to me."

She smiles a little. "Well, babies do tend to out-cute the adults. Maybe they're just charmed by him more?"

And he probably doesn't mock them about not having thumbs.

Yet.

"That, and they know he can't get up and get things himself. Me, I can, so they figure I should. I don't have to depend on other people or squirrels to bring me food. I just like to, that's all."

She chuckles, "Sounds to me like you need to hire yourself a servant."

"Yeah. Or when Ev's older--isn't that what people have kids for? So they don't have to get up to get themselves drinks anymore?"

She laughs. "Hey, I grew up in the foster system. It sorta feel like that's the reason why they pick kids out anyway."

"I used to do all that for my father. Course, he'd be working at the time... I'd have to get him drinks, or dinner from one of the food stands. It's just what you have kids do for you."

She shrugs. "I'm never going to have kids of my own, so, I guess I'm stuck fending for myself."

"You could adopt," he says with a light shrug. "Or take in strays--there's a lot of them in Milliways, goodness knows. Speaking of... it was nice meeting you, but that cake is calling me."

She smiles and nods, "Sure thing. It was nice meeting you, too."

And with that, she wanders off.
