Guppy's 30th Birthday Party

Having collected everyone from the bar, Guppy leads them back through to the house, where they enter through the kitchen.

The living room furniture has been mostly moved out of the way, and that's where the most of the party has been set up. The sofa and some chairs are around the edge of the room, and there's music playing. The kitchen is a bit small so the food is being taken through into the dining room. Also a little on the small side, but enough for purpose. All of the baby gates are open on the ground floor, but not on the stairs.

Upstairs, the spare bedroom has been set aside for any little people at the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

"Alcoholic or non?"

"Alcoholic." He nods, and will follow Guppy to the drink table. "So, what you plan to do with the rest of your old age?"

"Bring up the kid I suppose." Guppy says, offering Marlowe beer, wine or vodka plus a soft drink.

He accepts a beer, something simple or starters. "You think he will grow up without problems, with an Out-of-World place lurking just past the wrong door?"

"He's got his share of problems, but I don't think taking him through interdimentional portals is contributing to that." Guppy says, getting an orange juice.

"That is good." He nods. "And how is the clinic in Milliways?"

Marlowe hopes it is cadaver-free.

"Sneezy and hallucinogenic." Guppy says. "But we're coping."

"I've saw some strange things, sick people acting strange. It was just a disease, or something related to the strange things of Milliways."

"Or both, in this case. Milliways certainly has its fair share."

"Or unfair, but that is not surprising, considering how many people go there, from... everywhere." Milliways surely redefines that concept, 'everywhere'.

"Yeah, but unless they're all from worlds where magic disease is common, it's still odd."

Shrug. "Also I haven't yet traced the source."

"That might be not possible... not with how many worlds come here."

"If they were still here, then it would be, because you could sequence the genome and look for tiny mutations to build up a timeline. But it would take a lot of work and not actually help."

Marlowe nods, pretending very well to know what Guppy is talking about. "I wish you luck, then."

"Thank you, I'll do my best."
