Guppy's 30th Birthday Party

Having collected everyone from the bar, Guppy leads them back through to the house, where they enter through the kitchen.

The living room furniture has been mostly moved out of the way, and that's where the most of the party has been set up. The sofa and some chairs are around the edge of the room, and there's music playing. The kitchen is a bit small so the food is being taken through into the dining room. Also a little on the small side, but enough for purpose. All of the baby gates are open on the ground floor, but not on the stairs.

Upstairs, the spare bedroom has been set aside for any little people at the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

"Okay," he replies as if it makes perfect sense. He does work under the name "The Thing" so he's not one to cast stones. "I remember Franklin havin' the same problem. Is it okay ta visit the little guy? Later I mean."

Ben laughs at this and the memory of all eh devices Reed tried to come up with to keep Franklin in his crib. They all failed of course.

"I'll be sure to visit later. And introduce myself to Frogspawn when you relieve her of duty. Any distinguishin' marks?"

{About to go silent for the night.}

Mmmmmm, cake. Knox takes a big slice (though not too hugely big, since there is other food.

"Hey, Doc. Happy birthday! Seems you are getting old." So says a man pushing towards 40.

"Hey, Ben. Long time no see." Knox already has his cake, and a soda, and is balancing them somehow.

"It's a pleasure," she says, taking his hand. "Fellow Milliwayser?"

Never can be sure.

"The trick is to wear hats. Or a toup. Or, if you're Jewish, a big yarmukule." Knox smirks. "My hairline started receding a few years ago. But at least we aren't gray yet."

"I think it's illegal to wear a ponytail after 30 if you're a guy." Also that they look silly. Knox's tastes are still conservative.

"A soda to start? Maybe something stronger later?" He's gotten much better at pacing himself.

"Wasn't expecting that from my doctor. Remember when you gave me that checkup when I first got to the Bar and you read the riot act about my drinking?" Funny how that had a little effect (though less that dating someone who can almost never get drunk).

Knox isn't surprised Guppy doesn't remember. How many patients does Guppy have, compared to the handful of doctors Knox has seen in his life.

"I guess that's a good idea. Just be careful with him in the Bar. He's going to see a lot of people drunk there. But it's good that he learns about that at some point." Knox's parents pretty much never drink, but not for any reason other than not being drinkers.

"Should I try to be careful if see you around with my namesake?" When did Knox learn to be responsible? Probably while looking after Allie.

"I'll go up and check later. And I am sure you are right. I never liked parties as a kid. Even when they were for me."

"What's Funky Farm?" Does Alex really want to know?
