"Guppy, quick, we've been robbed!" Frogspawn yells at him the second he steps through the door.
Startled, he goes into the living room and sees it a real mess. He dashes upstairs... but it's all tidy. And his laptop and DVDs are still there.
"What's missing? My stuff's still here." He hurries back down the stairs and finds Frogspawn crouching over her kitten orphenage.
"They took the little kitten we found yesterday, they took Cobweb!"
She looks close to tears. Guppy moves over and gives her a hug.
"Look, if all they took was a kitten we only just found, they probably regretted abandoning her."
"But she's so tiny, she needs care!" Frogspawn says dolefully, going into the kitchen. She looks out the window and freezes.
"Guppy... there's a crop circle in your back garden."
"... you mean it's not one of your society's?"
Frogspawn dashes out back and looks at it; the bend of the grass, the scorch marks in the middle.
"We don't make them, Guppy, we study them. And, um, summon aliens."
Guppy stares at her for a moment, then reaches down and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"I believe in aliens, really. But I don't think they're going to be landing in our back garden. I think someone's been winding you up. Besides, if they did, what would they want with a cat?"
"I don't know." she looks up. "Do you think I should tell the society?"
"Well, if I met aliens, I'd tell as few people as possible. Remember ET. You don't want them getting hurt."
Frogspawn smiles slightly and heads back into the house for her camera.
"You know, it's strange to meet someone who so clearly believes in aliens but doesn't get in the slightest bit excited about them. Next you'll be telling me you've found portals."
