Nov. 26th, 2008 09:27 pmUp at six, shower, breakfast, off to the neonatal unit. Alexander's had a good couple of days, so they didn't stop over last night.
They stay at the neonatal ward until eight, then Guppy goes to work in his own department. They both agreed that it was sensible for him to keep some of his paternity leave until the baby is active enough for him to make best use of it, so long as he continues to be coping.
At lunchtime he pops back to NICU, to find his mother there, talking to Frogspawn. They both turn as he enters, and he's pleased to see that any animousity she felt towards his wife seems to have gone.
"Gurpreet." His mother nods to him. "I have come to see my grandson, as you requested." She looks down at the baby, and adds. "He is a most strange looking child, but very sweet, and I'm glad I came."
"Thank you." Guppy smiles slightly and moves over. "How's Ani?"
"Ani is doing well, walking and talking. She loves the music in India and is settled in just fine there."
"Do you need somewhere to stay?"
"No, I fly back in the morning. Your stepfather is here for a meeting, and we're not leaving Ani with friends longer than necessary."
She turns back to Alexander, reaches in and puts her hand on the baby's back whilst she says a small blessing for him that touches both his parents' hearts, and then leaves.
"She forgot your birthday, didn't she?" Frogspawn says to Guppy, coming over to wrap her arm around him.
"She's accepted us as a family." Guppy says, kissing his beloved wife on the forehead. "She can forget as many of my birthdays as she likes."
