Aug. 26th, 2008 11:44 pmGuppy isn't sure what makes him reach for the stun gun as he walks into his living room. It's just the feeling that someone is there, and that the someone isn't his wife...
He has his hand on it as he rounds the sofa, then relaxes.
"Jake! Why don't you ring the doorbell like a normal person?"
"Sorry Fish, force of habit. Your home security sucks by the way. If you didn't have me you'd be a massive thief target. I'll fix you up later, this is more important." Jake shifts his remaining leg so that he's sitting. "Your wife is being followed."
Guppy, alarmed, sits down on the bean bag.
"What? Who? Why?" he already has his phone out.
"His name is Richard Jameson, 34, unemployed, no record, probably harmless. Last seen interrupting your wedding. Married to your new sister in law Tanya a few years back. I put a bug on him at the wedding which triggered an alarm when he was hanging around here and your workplace." He shrugs. "I can't watch everyone at once, I just have alarms to trigger various places where people I've got tabs on shouldn't be. If any of the Lamberts ever show up here I'll be kicking their teeth in within ten minutes."
"How?" Guppy asks, showing frustration that Frogspawn hasn't picked up the phone yet.
"Sort of like a flea. When she picks up tell her to keep an eye on him. If she can catch him following her she can get your hospital security on him. My guess is he's looking for clues to Tanya's whereabouts, probably isn't interested in her at all."
Guppy gets through to Frogspawn and relates this. She takes it calmly.
"Thanks Hacker."
"You're welcome Fish. Do you want me to flea your mother before she flies to India?"
"You already flead my mother."
"Well okay, yes I did. But it's just a tracker..."
"Wait, Frogs, no, don't go out and talk to him..." Guppy glares despite the fact that she can't possibly see through the phone. "Honey, at least stay on the line."
They both listen quietly for a few minutes before Frogspawn returns on the phone.
"It's okay, he was looking for me to visit Tanya. But he's pretty satisfied that if I knew where she was I'd have given away some clues by now. He says he'll leave me alone."
"Okay, we'll keep an eye on him. I'll pick you up this afternoon and if he follows you again we'll get the police on him."
They cut the conversation and Guppy looks up at Jake.
"Jake, I appreciate you helping us but I want your assurance that you're not stalking me."
Jake laughs, gets up and ruffles Guppy's hair.
"Don't worry Fish. I don't have time to actually stalk you. I just hate bullies. Anyway, gotta get home, my babe will be missing me."
"You have a girlfriend? Why didn't you say?"
"Ex-fugitives forget they can reveal their loved ones to the world. I'll let you meet her some time. Go pick up your girl."
