Guppy sighs as he looks through the accounts, then closes the book and gets up to go downstairs. He stops at the bottom of the stairs as the puppy greets him, staring up at him and wagging its tail. He freezes up for a moment, then walks past it, trying to ignore the fact that it's chewing his trousers.

"What's wrong?" Frogspawn asks as he goes into the living room and sits on the sofa with his feet out of the way. Guppy sighs and points at the puppy.

"Guppy, it's just for a few months until Mrs Cooper is out of hospital. He's not such a bad little thing really."

"No." Guppy says quietly, tensely. "I don't want to argue, really, but you brought him home without even phoning me. I'm frightened of dogs Frogs, and I can't just turn it off. I don't like the puppy, we can't afford the puppy, and I don't like having him around Ani. I know you like animals and you meant well, and I'm not going to force you, but is there someone else who could look after Igor until his owner is well?" He fidgets. "Maybe when our kid is older we'll think again. If you want a pet of your own I'm all for it, okay?" He looks up nervously, hoping he hasn't upset her too much. But she's by his side, giving him a hug.

"I'm sorry. I should have asked before I brought him home. I'll see if Hannah would take him, Abby would be extatic." She looks up at him. "You okay?"

"Yeah. Guess every relationship has its teething problems eh?" He smiles slightly and she nods. "Are you?"

Frogspawn grins. "Actually, Igor has been eating my shoes, weeing on the one bit of carpet without newspaper on and generally being as difficult as possible. I was so wrapped up in thinking I could heal you that I lost sight of where we were trying to go with him. It wasn't fair on you to push you in ways you didn't want to go. And you're just fine the way you are." Beat. "Did you just say we can't afford the puppy?"

"Well we'll probably be fine, so long as we're careful. And if all else really fails we've got Kate and Knox itching to help us out. I just never expected the house to need so much repair. Should have known why it was so cheap." he sighs and shakes his head. "I'm sorry. I bet you didn't expect to be a doctor's wife living in squalor."

She pokes him. "It's not squalor, silly. Just needs a lick of paint and a new upstairs floor and some carpets or at least a rug, and maybe some more furniture. But we've got running water and a roof over our heads."

"And a cooker with one ring with melted kettle on it."

"S'adding character. A story. I think we should leave it just to remind everyone to be careful."
