Jul. 9th, 2008 12:50 pmGuppy wasn't very surprised to experience a time spasm when he got home after fleeing life support. The bar door didn't appear for a whole three weeks. It's happened before when he spends far too much time on the other side of the universe.
He hopes not too much time will pass there before he gets back. Work, wedding plans, kittens... the nagging need to go back to the bar is always there, but in general, it gives him some time to recover. That is until he's out walking the dog, and his pager bleeps.
The number is Frogspawn. The only message 'help'.
He dashes down the road, carrying the dog when she can't keep up. He gets the door open.
"Frogs, where are you?" he dashes into the kitchen, and she's on the floor. Even before he's able to check, he's already pretty sure what this is. There's pig food all around, she's gasping for breath, and her handbag's in the hall. Fortunately, Guppy's got an extra Epipen in his pocket.
He sends the Epipen down hard on her thigh, letting the adrenaline do its work, then as her breathing eases, gets his phone out of his pocket.
"Ambulance please... twenty four year old female, anaphylactic shock, I've given her the epipen but she's still in respiratory distress. We have no transport... thank you." he gives the address, then holds her gently in his arms. He picks her up and moves her away from whatever the allergen is.
"Don't try and talk." he says gently as she clings to him. "You're going to be fine."

He didn't want to leave her at the hospital at all. But she's stable, and he needs to find out what the trigger was. The pig food is the obvious choice, and looking at the label suggests the likely presence of peanuts. But she wouldn't have been eating this stuff. He puts it outside and washes his hands thoroughly anyway.
Hm, maybe she handled this and then ate something
He picks up a bottle of medication on the side. Unlabelled pills. He tuts slightly and makes a mental note to remind her to stop buying medication from the dodgy online company
she uses; it may be cheap but he's not convinced it's sensible or even legal. Opening the bottle, he tips the pills onto his hand, and turns one over. Well that's easy enough, these are contraceptives. He'd recognise them any day of the week.
Flipping his mobile open, he calls the ward and asks if she can come on the line.
"How are you feeling?" he asks first, despite having left less than an hour ago.
"I'm fine, thanks to you." little smile. "How's the allergen hunt?"
"Did you take your tablets after handling the pig food?" Guppy asks, slipping them back into the bottle. There is a pause on the other end of the line.
"Which tablets?"
"Contraceptives. They were in the kitchen."
"Oh, no, those are pig vitamins. I keep my contraceptives upstairs, remember?"
Guppy blinks, then runs upstairs to the bedside locker and tips the pills out.
"Frogs, these aren't contraceptives. They're the same shape and colour, but they don't have the letters on. Where did you get them from?"
"I bought them at the same time as the pig vitamins."
There is a stunned silence between the two of them.
"How long have you been taking these?" Guppy asks, sitting down on the mattress.
"Um... since I got the delivery at the end of May?"
In the tense half hour it takes Guppy to get back to the hospital, Guppy can only think of one thing going around and around in his head.
Atton's going to kill me.
