CRASH!
Guppy and Holly sit upright in bed, looking at one another towards the sound of the crash. The baby begins to cry, and Holly picks her up.
Oh great, I just got her off Guppy thinks, picking up a plank of wood and heading into the bathroom in search of the source of the noise. Shielding his head with the wood, he peers out.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?"
His uncle moves into the light.
"I'm sorry, I was trying to attract your attention, but the pebble was too big. I'll pay for the damage."
"I thought you were in India? With my mother?"
"We sorted things out. But... she's had a bit of a fall, so she sent be on ahead. To collect Anita."
"You come around here in the middle of the night, breaking my window and announcing a plan my mother's not told me about and an injury she hasn't told me about, a week after you tried to kill me, and you expect me to hand over the baby?"
Awkward silence.
"No, I didn't think you should."
"Guppy, I'm sorry. I messed up. I'm sorry I hurt you. She's still my niece, and I'll raise her as a daughter."
Holly appears at the next window.
"Mr Sandhu, I don't know what you think you are doing, but you are not helping your case. Go home. Guppy will talk to your mum, then phone you back and let you know what she says, okay? If you want us to think you're responsible, don't come around here at four in the morning."
"Oh. I thought it was the afternoon. Sorry."
As Guppy's uncle slinks off, Guppy takes a deep breath and tries to feel calmer. Going back into the other room, he takes Anita from Holly and holds her gently.
"Are you okay?" she asks, slipping an arm around them both. "You're all shaken."
"Easily done." Guppy says, kissing the baby's head. "I'm going to take her into the bar, get us both calmed down so we don't lose too much sleep time. If you'll be okay here? I mean, I'd normally stay, nobody gets me calmed down like you, but..."
A grimace. "We're both up in two hours, I'm not going to complain."
