Dec. 28th, 2007 08:05 pmRestless sleep.
Not just because of the fact that he has a baby waking him up avery couple of hours, or the pain, but because his mother and uncle have been completely missing for a good twenty four hours. Not at home. Not at Nana's. Not at any of his other relatives' houses.
He's invisaging one of them having killed the other in a highly overdramatic manner. It's hours since he called the police, just before calling work to tell them he was in too much pain to come in. Though he fibbed slightly to say he'd fallen down the stairs, not wanting them to fuss. Then he'd passed the time making three copies of the video of himself getting assaulted. He posts one to the police, one to Jake's PO Box for safe keeping, keeps the original in his bedside locker and puts the last copy in his pocket to keep safely in Milliways.
And then, the phone rings. Mum mobile. He grabs it and presses the green button.
"Mum, where the hell are you?"
Beat.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE IN INDIA?!"
He gets to his feet to rock the basket he's keeping the baby in.
"Oh yes, I'll look after her. And what do I tell the health visitor? How long are you going to be there for? ... Mum, this is completely unfair, I work full time, she's your child and you've abandoned her. She needs you... Yes, I'll hold off social services as long as I can, but you don't deserve it. Get back here within the week or I'm telling them."
An increasingly incredulous look.
"Of course I'm prosecuting him. He could have killed me. Leave him there, you don't need him... oh you'll lie for him will you? I should have known. I have the video mum, if you want to get charged with lying to the police, you go ahead."
He sits down, wincing with the pain.
"Anita." he repeats back with a sigh. "Yes, I got that. I'll tell her that's her name. I'll tell her her mum has put her husband first, as always."
He hangs up and puts his head in his hands.
