Oct. 17th, 2007 03:43 pmStaff room.
Silence. Despite there being two of them in there. Emily is still pointedly ignoring Guppy.
And he's starting to get annoyed.
"Look, Emily, we're working together and we were getting on really well. You're going to have to accept that Holly and I are dating."
"I don't care." is the junior doctor's strained reply.
"Then why are you ignoring me?"
"I'm not."
"Emily, I'm not stupid, I've noticed. And look..." he runs a hand through his hair. "Look, I've worked it out."
She looks at him sharply. "What?"
"I realise I was tactless, and I should have learned from this last time it happened but... I'm sorry Emily, I didn't know you had a crush or I'd have let you know more gently that I'm just not interested."
Holly slips through the ajar staff room door half way through this last sentence, and in time to see Emily stand up with an outraged look.
"Well I hope you didn't waste too much time on that theory! What do you think you are, some kind of sex god?"
Guppy stares after her as she storms out of the staff room, then looks up at Holly and shrugs. The latter, to his surprise, cuffs him around the head slightly less than gently.
"Ow! What was that for?"
"You idiot Guppy, why didn't you tell me you were going to do that?"
"Why? It's me she's ignoring. It's not my fault if she's got a crush, it happens, I missed one before."
"Guppy, shut up for a minute. If you'd just bothered to ask me you'd know she's got a crush on me, not you."
"I... oh. Bugger."
"And you'd also know that I've already talked to her, and she said she'd come around to the idea but she'd just not seen it coming."
"Now who's not communicating? And what's the difference between you or me doing that?"
"I did it more tactfully."
Holly grabs her tea and heads for the door.
"Where are you going?" Guppy asks.
"To sort out your mess before my department descends into chaos. You said you weren't going to let our relationship interfere with work, remember?"
She almost slams the door. Guppy sits back, sips his tea and mentally pouts at the injustice of it all.
