(no subject)

Selena comes up behind Harry and Ellen as they watch through the glass doors. Occasionally a nurse will come in or out, but most of the time it is quiet along the corridor. There is nothing but the bleep of machines. Harry nods to Selena as she approaches.

"How are they doing?" she asks, coming closer and looking into the intensive care ward. The sight of Guppy sitting there holding his father's hand is almost heartbreaking to watch, let alone be a part of. Harry shakes his head.
"Jas has made it through theatre but whether he will survive overall is doubtful." He looks back through the glass. "As for Guppy, the poor lad's in a terrible state, and it's hardly surprising. He's been there all night, not eating nor sleeping. He's exhausted but he won't let us take him home." He sighs. "I'd take him to my house but I don't think four noisy kids is what he needs right now."
"What the poor lad needs is his mum." Selena shakes her head.
Ellen speaks up, curling one finger around her hair. "He won't go home with his family. He's too worried that the gang will notice who they are. And between you and me he won't be wanting to go back with Abs either, since Abs saw him being attacked and didn't say anything. He was in the middle of confessing when they brought Jas in."
There is an exchange of looks between Harry and Selena. Harry shakes his head.
"What a mess."
Selena nods, then opens the door and goes up to the young doctor, putting one hand gently on his shoulder.
"Come on sweetheart, let's get you fed and in bed before you collapse on us. Your dad's going to need looking after and you can't help him if you make yourself ill. We're not going to make you go home, you can sleep in the on call room if you like. But you must rest now."
Guppy gives in. "Thanks." He gets up and allows hmself to be led.
