Guppy sleeps soundly for about three hours after Asar-Suti leaves, his first bit of REM sleep containing only snow. But people enter REM sleep about every hour and a half; by the time he starts to dream again the peaceful scene is gradually replaced by his nightmare.

He is looking into the same scene as before, watching the four patients with three doctors. The only difference is that there's snow on the floor. He concentrates hard on changing it so that his father comes in earlier again, which he does. After shouting at Harry about Guppy's incompetance, his father goes to help the fourth patient. He picks up the X-ray, upside down as before, and proceeds to put the chest drain in the wrong side again. The patient dies, and Guppy looks for the gunman, still trying to work out what to do differently. The man comes in, shouting at the staff for letting his own father die. He draws the gun, which Guppy changes into a water pistol again. The gunman rushes to dead man's bed to get the second gun. Hidden behind his father, again Guppy can't see it to change it. The gunman points the gun at Guppy's father's head.

Guppy screams out loud (which would probably make Hagrid jump), and tries to get to his father.

But the shot he is expecting doesn't come. Instead, Guppy's father punches the gunman in the face and grabs hold of the gun. It fires at the ceiling, showering plaster down onto the snow-covered ground.

Guppy stops fighting the air, waking up with a start. The first thing he is aware of is a pain in his side where he fell, and the ache of his sleep deprived head. Then he realises he's fully dressed, apart from his tie. He looks over and sees Hagrid.
