Guppy walks out of the inquest - it went smoothly enough. The Smiths told the truth about the whole affair, and that they had forced Guppy to do surgery in their back bedroom. It made a nice change to have things settled so easily in the end, if not all that well for the family.
He keeps the suit on as he dashes to the second suit-requiring appointment of the day. He didn't know Curtis Cooper, the paramedic killed in the final round of the Gang War, but he went out with his fiance Alice once, and since he has the day off he felt he ought to pay his respects.
He sits and listens to the story of a man who tried to get out of the gang life he'd lived as a kid. Who'd succeeded, but ultimately, not escaped. It's a hard story to hear; a reminder of the times where he had to stand up to gangs himself.
He catches up with the few of his former colleagues who remain alive and working in the department, then slips quietly away.
"How did it go?" Frogspawn asks him anxiously as he comes in.
Guppy smiles weakly.
"Got off in the inquest, funeral was depressing. Don't worry, I'm not going to get pissed."
"Little ears aren't selective." She says, fixing him with a look of mock disapproval. But Alex is occupied with shaking and mashing the Wii remote, and hasn't even noticed his father come in yet. Guppy goes behind him to watch him playing with it, wondering whether Alex has any idea what he's actually doing. His question is quickly answered; he's just hitting it until something happens.
"He's seen us playing." he says to Frogspawn, ruffling Alex's hair. "Shame you haven't got the co-ordination eh Fry, you'd probably beat me."
He watches his son bash the A button, making the little Fry Mii throw the ball up and down over and over with a 'Whoop' noise.
"Try shaking it again." He encourages, showing him. Alex grabs the remote back and shakes it hard, lets go by mistake and sends it flying straight into the television.
Frogspawn comes running in from the kitchen, to see two guilty looking faces. And then, in unison, father and son point at one another.
"He did it."
