guppy_sandhuGuppy blows bubbles towards Coral's bouncer seat. The little girl smiles delightedly, and gurgles when they pop on her fingers.
He watches to see how far she's seeing them from. The ophthalmologist said only time would tell how well she can see, but it's always reassuring to watch her react to things.
"Just me and you this afternoon, Col." he says softly. "Mummy and Alex at a playdate, of all things."
He glances towards the phone. He hopes Georgie's mum knows what she's in for, but she hasn't phoned to complain yet.
"I'd like to be under the sea,
In an octopus' garden in the shade..." he sings quietly to the baby, bouncing her seat with his toe.
When he's done, he picks her up for a cuddle.
"You know, I can't decide whether you're an easy baby, or whether we're just used to your brother. I know you're waiting to be awkward in your own way, missy, so don't think you're luring me into a false sense of security."
A little later, Frogspawn and Alex arrive back. She gives Guppy the thumbs up. Alex has survived his first successful playdate.
"Georgie's mum is so lovely. He very nearly peed on the carpet, but otherwise it went pretty well."
"She seems sensible enough. The occasional toddler accident comes with the territory." Guppy says, getting up as the phone rings.
He listens to the call, then gets his coat.
"I've got to nip back into work, sorry." Guppy says, peering back into the living room.
"Anything wrong?"
"You could say that. Someone has nicked about five hundred pounds worth of medication from the ward."
