Guppy's 30th Birthday Party

Having collected everyone from the bar, Guppy leads them back through to the house, where they enter through the kitchen.

The living room furniture has been mostly moved out of the way, and that's where the most of the party has been set up. The sofa and some chairs are around the edge of the room, and there's music playing. The kitchen is a bit small so the food is being taken through into the dining room. Also a little on the small side, but enough for purpose. All of the baby gates are open on the ground floor, but not on the stairs.

Upstairs, the spare bedroom has been set aside for any little people at the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

Food!

Lots of yummy peanut-free food has been arranged in the dining room, along with some non-alcoholic and light alcoholic refreshments.

In the middle is a big cake, shaped like a fish, but with thirty candles still sticking out of it so that it looks more like a blowfish than anything else. The candles have already been blown out though, so the cake is fair game.

Not at all necessary, but there's a table for them if anyone wants to leave one.

Penny leaves a gift bag on the table. Inside, he'll find a hand knitted scarf.

Creche

A room has been set aside upstairs for small people who might be overwhealmed by the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

Guppy and Frogspawn are taking turns to sit up there with Alex and any other babies that may come.

Friendly big people are welcome too of course! Or anyone who wants to wish Alex happy birthday from last week.

She takes a few bites of cheese and crackers, and off the veggie tray as well.

"Hi Penny, thanks for coming and for the present." Guppy says, grabbing a mini cake. "I'm going to open them all afterwards, so nothing gets trodden on."

Getting out of Milliways is nice.

"You're safe for a few days." Guppy says, "So you'll be fine for an evening. How are you?"

She nods, still smiling. "I'm pretty good. Starting to get accustomed to Milliways, and beings...life-challenged."

"It does take a bit of time." Guppy says. "My wife's upstairs at the moment, but she's managed to get used to bar things without having even been there."

There's a bit of a laugh from her, "Yeah, with all the very different people in Milliways...you never know what sort of creature will show up next."

Shrug. "It would be hard for her to not know, given how big a part of my life Milliways is. One of my earlier girlfriends nearly got me sectioned when she saw me getting back through the fridge."

She nods. "I guess that makes sense. I mean, it'd be difficult to deal with that sort of thing."

"Frogspawn's good with it." Grin. "I'm lucky to have her. Now what can I get you to drink?"

Ben never comes to a party empty handed, especially not a birthday party. He places two gift bags on the table; one contains two decently priced yet fabulous bottles of wine and the other contains Fantastic Four blue fleece blankets and PJs.

Guppy will have to guess whose is whose.

There's a small smile. These are things she can't have anymore.

"I'd like a glass of wine, I think. Haven't had any in a long time."

Can't have what you can't afford.

Ben helps himself to a slice of cake when he notices Guppy talking with the cute redhead.

"Well while you're here, eat and drink as much as you like." Guppy says. "Red or white?"

Ben comes over with a half eaten slice of cake to say, "Sorry ta interrupt but this cake is great!"

Penny smiles, "Red, I think. Thanks."

Her attention is drawn over and upwards.

"It looks good, I haven't had any yet. I'm Penny." She offers her hand.

Guppy pours her a glass of red and leaves her to talk to Ben while he checks on Alex, then comes back to talk to Ben.

"Thanks." Guppy says, grinning at him. "Frogspawn made it."

Ben juggles the plate, fork and napkin to offer his own hand in return. "I'm Ben, Ben Grimm."

"I'd be interested in the recipe," Ben replies before Guppy's words truly sink in. "Uh...'Frogspawn'?"
