Guppy's 30th Birthday Party

Having collected everyone from the bar, Guppy leads them back through to the house, where they enter through the kitchen.

The living room furniture has been mostly moved out of the way, and that's where the most of the party has been set up. The sofa and some chairs are around the edge of the room, and there's music playing. The kitchen is a bit small so the food is being taken through into the dining room. Also a little on the small side, but enough for purpose. All of the baby gates are open on the ground floor, but not on the stairs.

Upstairs, the spare bedroom has been set aside for any little people at the party. It's a bit quieter, with baby-sized food, some toys, and a DVD of Pingu playing.

"Well, aye but ye still can own it. Tis somethin'."

Small smile. "Do you think you and Kate will be able to settle somewhere one day?"

"'ope so, wish to. Doc found 'is plot o'land."

That takes the smile off Guppy's face.

"Yeah, he did." he says quietly. "I bet he made it into something great."

Doc should have been here. Doc was going to come with Kate for a dinner party. And Ramon's walking around the bar free...

Will takes another long drink of his beer.

He promised not to drink tonight.

But there will be alcohol left over. He makes a subconscious mental note to stash some for a private binge at a later date.

"Have you decided a date for the memorial?"

"Nay, na yet. Soon though."

Guppy nods.

"I was going to call the birthday party off, but Frogspawn said it would help everyone take their minds off things for a while."

"Oh aye an tis a good cake."

Guppy nods. He doesn't really feel like eating it now.

"We'll make one for the bonfire. Horseshoe shaped maybe?"

"Yeah. I think I'll be allowed some that night."

"Thanks. You shouldn't have to though, I don't want to be a burden."

"Ye're na, just a friend."

"I'll try not to get completely incapacitated at the memorial." Guppy says. "I don't want to spoil things."

Giving Will a hug. "Thanks though."

"You've got a birthday around this time of year, haven't you?"

"Already 'ad it round the end o'October, just sort o'forgot 'bout it."

"Oh man, I missed it. Sorry Will. Were you twenty?"

"Oh no! You have to have a party too! Even if it's belated!"

Guppy grabs a party hat from a nearby table, and puts it on Will's head.

"You can share mine for now."
